Everyone knows about the time Oprah Winfrey tried to shop at the Hermès flagship store in Paris past closing time and was rebuffed at the door. But did you know the Queen of Thailand had better luck when she arrived after hours, with an entourage of approximately 100 people? The difference was that Hermès staff was expecting the queen and waited a bit extra, according to a new book by Christian Blanckaert, executive vice president of Hermès International in charge of international affairs. His 202-page tome, titled "Luxe" and scheduled for a French release on Oct. 11, offers a freewheeling, insider view of the company's history, punctuated with witty stories and anecdotes about the company, its employees and the quirks of its customers.
