Oslo-based "Snøhetta" is developing a spectacular gallery and hotel complex by one of Europe’s grandest hydroelectric dams, in the steep Tafjord valley on Norway’s north-west coast. The Galerie Tafjord will hover as a transparent glass beam in front of the elegantly curved 96m-high dam, with the dam wall being used to project hi-tech art installations and light shows. The dam also doubles as a structural foundation for 42 shoebox-shaped hotel rooms with floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Bathrooms are partially transparent, allowing visitors to take a bath while contemplating the scenery. The site will open for business next Fall, by which time the hotel will have been named.
