Opposites Attract

No, it's not Paula Abdul's song. According to neuroscientist Simon LeVay “Some degree of difference between same-sex partners is probably necessary for the establishment and maintenance of loving sexual relationships. With a man and a woman, this essential difference is supplied automatically by the very fact that the union crosses the sex divide. Differences between that, in age, race and so forth, may tend to overload a couple’s capacity for mutual understanding, or may provoke social intolerance, which would explain why most stable heterosexual partnerships are between fairly similar people.” SOURCE

Finally...

The construction of NY's Freedom Tower begins today, 4 1/2 years after WTC were attacked. The tower rises from its cubic base, its square edges are chamfered back, transforming the square into eight tall isosceles triangles in elevation. At its middle, the tower forms a perfect octagon in plan and then culminates in an observation deck and glass parapet (elevation 1,362 feet and 1,368 feet – the heights of the original Twin Towers) whose plan is a square, rotated 45 degrees from the base. A mast containing an antenna for the Metropolitan Television Alliance (MTVA) rises from a circular support ring, similar to Liberty’s torch, to a height of 1,776 feet.

New Downtown Los Angeles

The $750 million project By Frank Gehry, which includes the first high-rises he has ever designed for his hometown, is the first phase of a $1.8 billion development plan by the Related Companies that will remake Grand Avenue as a pedestrian-based gathering point. "When we talk about L.A. having a downtown, it's a stretch, because L.A. is so spread out as a city. Our downtown probably is a linear one — Wilshire Boulevard or Sunset Boulevard." Mr. Gehry said. "You don't have a downtown. This is an attempt to find one." SOURCE

Please check before re-gifting

On his 37th birthday, Brett Ratner, X-Men3 director, received a $900 Hermes blanket from his pal, jewelry heiress Zeta Graff. As a joke, Graff had included a photo of herself in a bikini with a note attached that read, "For when I'm not there to keep you warm." Later that evening, Ratner, who never saw the picture, gave the blanket to Lindsay Lohan - with whom he's been romantically linked, although both have denied it - during a private tour of his home. Lohan was said to be "shocked" when she unwrapped the blanket and found Graff's photo. SOURCE

Elegant Wind Turbine

An elegant vertical-axis wind turbine, quietrevolution has been designed and developed by XCO2, an established low-carbon energy consultancy and engineering practice. Virtually silent and vibration free, quietrevolution is ideally suited to both urban sites and exposed locations.

Quietrevolution is also available in a unique model capable of creating a striking visual display that is part illuminated billboard, part artwork, part renewable energy device. Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) embedded in each of its three S-shaped blades fire in sequence as the blades rotate, painting a video screen that appears to hang in the air. This full colour and motion image is clearly visible day and night.

Graffiti on Air Force One ??

Apparently, it was a hoax. The pranksters responsible for the grainy, two-minute Web video revealed Friday how they pulled it off: a rented 747 in California painted to look almost exactly like Air Force One. "I wanted to do something culturally significant, wanted to create a real pop-culture moment," said Marc Ecko of Marc Ecko Enterprises. "It's this completely irreverent, over-the-top thing that could really never happen: this five-dollar can of paint putting a pimple on this Goliath."

The Ultimate Label Queen

You're not the Ultimate Label Queen until you own Fendi bedsheet, 300 thread count in signature Zucca pattern. It goes very well with your new $9,450 "Spy" bag.

Oh my Lourdes...

Madonna's children Rocco and Lourdes have decorated handbags for fashion house "Celine" that will be auctioned off for charity next month. The fashion company asked 19 celebrities' kids to customise its canvas Poulbot bag. The proceeds from the sale will go to actress/singer Vanessa Paradis' charity "Reves", which helps sick children realise their dreams. Paradis' children with actor Johnny Depp, Jack and Lily-Rose, have also designed bags for the cause. Lourdes, 9 years old, covered her bag with red lips, while Rocco, 5 years old, sketched colourful drawings of small animals on his bag. The bags will be auctioned off at a dinner at the Hotel Bristol in Paris, France, on May 30.

Ace Young was voted off tonight - as we expected. He has the weakest voice and always pick bad songs. Now I have to cheer my second choice - everybody's favorite - Mr. Taylor Hicks.

Madonna: Confession Tour 06 - Update

Let's have a closer look at the unique design of the Confessions Tour as appears on the seating charts of the North American venues.
The main stage is approximatively 19 metres wide with a center circular area with a 14 meters diameter. The main catwalk is 18 meters in length and ends in front of Row 25 on the floor area. The two smaller catwalks extend to Row 6 on the Floor with the stages at the end of each being 12x12 in size, and they go about 5-6 rows into the stands. The main stage is approximatively 1,70 metres high from the floor, the runway goes down to 1,55 and the side platforms at the end of the stage rise up to 2,80 meters from the floor.
The show director - Jamie King said in an interview a few weeks ago that Madonna will be "as close to her people - her fans, her dancers, her fellow supporters - as possible".

My wish list...

Long known as the accessory of choice for gentlemen in the "waste-management" business, the gold watch has been showing up on some surprisingly fashionable wrists lately, designer Tom Ford's included. Of course, you'll need a fashion kingpin's income to experience most of these gilty pleasures. But if $27,000 for this Dior timepiece feels like a bit too much to pay, don't despair: That's why God invented Casio.

Private "Versace" jet

What's better than having a private jet; having a private Versace jet...
The TAG Group, a Luxembourg company that owns TAG Aeronautics in Montreal, asked Versace to put its gloss on its $50 million Bombardier jet planes. The interior has white leather upholstery, black rabbit fur pillows and a Versace logo in the upholstery; the logo also appears on the exterior, top. The company prefers this sober scheme, but if customers "want it pink and blue, no problem."

Naomi for LV

First, Chanel, then Louis Vuitton; Lindsay Lohan has been dropped (again) by Louis Vuitton bosses to make her the new face of the label and going for Naomi Campbell instead. A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Marc is great friends with Lindsay and she loves his clothes so it was no surprise rumours were flying that he was pushing his French bosses to get her to star in their campaign. But they thought Lindsay was too American for their global brand." Next time L Lo should keep her mouth shut until she really got the job.

Gay Theme Park

Tongziland, the world's first homosexual theme park, scheduled to open in 2009, the adults-only amusement park will rise in Johor Bahru. Spokesmen Tang En Chee of Same Joy PTE, Ltd., the Malaysian/Hong Kong joint venture which is funding the project, says that government licensing has been granted to transform a 120,000 square meter area of landfill into a full-featured, world-class recreation and entertainment tourist attraction. Local businesses hope the park will attract the lucrative pink dollar from affluent gay travelers from the around the region and Australia.

Organizers have been working closely with the government to revise Malaysia's colonial-era anti-sodomy laws to permit homosexual social interaction within the park's boundaries. A Health Ministry "Safer Sex Tourism Kit" with map of Malaysia's other gay attractions will be developed to emphasize that the nation has "a lot more than just a gay theme park" to offer homosexuals on a daily basis.

Preliminary designs for the park call for an authentic Chinese dynastic palace throne room populated by animatronic figures of famous gay Emperors and their favorites, a branch of Osaka's Takarazaku all-female theatrical extravaganza, a Thai-themed sports complex with transgender kick-boxing arena and Iron Ladies volleyball court, Cinderfella's Enchanted Castle sauna, an Old West themed Lesbian Round-up, and the 10-story tall Tower of Pride with rotating disco and high-powered lasers.

Playboy goes Gay

Christie Hefner, the chief executive, said “We’ve extended the Playboy brand to women, and where there is a meaningful gay market, launching under a different brand is something we are very comfortable doing. The brand will use Britain (where people are more open-minded) as its base to move into the gay market for the first time.

Prada for H&M ??

The rumour that the Italian fashion house is to follow Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney's hugely successful collaborations with the Swedish store has surfaced again.

Miuccia was asked last year whether she would consider the idea of working with H&M. "I have talked about it as they did ask me, I think it is an interesting concept and I would love to work on an entire collection using inexpensive materials." Her only reservation is that she would be opposed to "the idea of copying the main collection straight out", stipulating that it should "be treated as a whole new collection". H&M's company’s design chief, Margareta van den Bosch, has indicated that Muiccia Prada is one of her favorite designers, and that she is keen to recruit a designer who can also do menswear.
