Quote of the Day

" I want to say to the gentleman to my left, gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way. When women got the vote they did not redefine voting. When African-Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not redefine eating out. They were simply invited to the table...We have no desire to change marriage. We want to be entitled to not only the same privileges, but the same responsibilities as straight people. "

PROP 8 is Unconstitutional

Today makes another day in the history when a Federal judge, Vaughn Walker, rules California's gay marriage ban unconstitutional, stating that "California has no interest in differentiating between same-sex and opposite-sex couples." Read the ruling here (pdf). I'm sure the bigot will fight to appeal this but for now.... we won !!!

Quote of the Day

" You know, I grew up in a religious family, in a religious community and it just doesn't make sense to me. It just doesn't work for me in the long run. I never wanted to step on anyone else's religion and their beliefs -- that's what's great about our country -- until I started seeing it defining policy. ... Like gay marriage, you have a group of people telling other people how to live their lives, and you can't do that....I just say you have to, you really have to check what country you're living in because the freedom that allows you to practice religion is the same freedom you're stepping on. That's not right. And I want to add that if there was a nation of gay married couples who were telling you you couldn't practice your religion, I'd be speaking up for you too. So, let's stop the nonsense. "

My Wish List...

The day " the Flag of Equal Marriage" is completed with 50 stars...

(The stars on the flag represent the states that actively perform same-sex marriages. They're arranged in order of each state's admission into the union.)

Breaking News: PROP 8 IS VALID

Booooooooo.......

The California Supreme Court has upheld a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, but also decided that the estimated 18,000 gay couples who tied the knot before the law took effect will stay wed. The decision today rejected an argument from gay rights activists that the ban revised the California constitution's equal protection clause to such a dramatic degree that it first needed the Legislature's approval.

If CA Supreme court overturns PROP 8, I might celebrate the good news with a new pair of shoes...

Today is The DAY

Today at 10:00 AM PST Californian, and I believe the rest of the country, are waiting for the decision from California Supreme Court in a series of lawsuits seeking to overturn November's Proposition 8. If the seven-member court upholds the initiative as a constitutional expression of the electorate's will, it also will be deciding whether to sustain the marriages of an estimated 18,000 gay couples who wed before the measure passed with 52 percent of the vote. Proposition 8 superseded the Supreme Court's May 2008 ruling that legalized same-sex unions by changing the state constitution to outlaw them. In that 4-3 decision, the court majority invalidated California's marriage statutes, holding that denying same-sex couples the right to wed amounted to state-sanctioned discrimination. SOURCE

It's Official

Today same-sex couples can legally married in Iowa. After the ruling on April 3rd by Iowa Supreme Court, Iowa is the third state to allow same-sex marriage, joining Massachusetts and Connecticut. I couldn't believe that California is lacking behind Iowa, no offense to Iowans.

March 5th: The Judgment Day

The California Supreme Court would hear arguments on March 5th over the constitutionality of Proposition 8, the November ballot measure that reinstated a ban on same-sex marriage. The court's decision in the case will come within 90 days of the three-hour hearing, which will be held in San Francisco and broadcast live on the California Channel. In addition to hearing challenges to Proposition 8, the court will consider the fate of 18,000 same-sex marriages that occurred before the November election. SOURCE

The Ugly Truth of MORMON

Activists claim that money from the Mormon Church was the deciding factor in passing Proposition 8 in California but the church claims to have only spent a few thousand dollars. Who lies? See this clip for yourself. SOURCE

What A Great Day !!!

It was a day to remember. I've made it to the National Protest against PROP 8 at SF City Hall. Usually I'm not the forefront activist, but this time is different. This was my first protest and the reason was if I don't fight for my right, who will? I showed up along with my friends and thousands of people to demand the right that has been taken away from us since Nov 4th - the right to marry who I want. The highlight of the speakers was Rev. Amos Brown (picture below), a national board member of the NAACP, who said "though I'm a Baptist, I refuse to be a bigot."
See the pictures from across country at Towleroad.

TODAY !!! NATIONAL Protest PROP 8

Join The Impact is the website created to fight PROP 8 - NATIONWIDE. On Saturday November 15th at 10:30am PST / 1:30pm EST, join the force at the city halls in your cities to fight the discrimination.

Here are some words from the webmaster:

"On the steps of your City Hall on November 15th at 10:30am PST / 1:30pm EST, our community WILL take to the streets and speak out against Proposition 8 and all of the other pro-equality losses that we have faced in our lifetimes, in our parents’ lifetimes, and for many generations before us. WE CAN’T DO THIS ALONE! WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need organizers in every major city to work with us and get out the protest! I know you’re all tired from all of the work you’ve done for this great election year, but I’m asking for one more push! Let the country hear our voices together. Let them see that we are a strong, adamant, and powerful community that deserves equal rights, and CAN’T BE DEFEATED!"

Quote of the Day

" if people put fear into people
and made them believe things that weren't true,
that's not how you want somebody to vote.
You want them to vote the truth,
and you want them to vote their heart. "

Quote of the Day

" At some point in our lifetime,
gay marriage won't be an issue,
and everyone who stood against this civil right
will look as outdated as
George Wallace standing on the school steps
keeping James Hood from entering the University of Alabama
because he was black. "

Quote of the Day

" I was listening to all of these people on television say
how they can finally tell their children that
they can grow up and be anything.
And I kept thinking,
no you can’t. Not if they’re gay.

If they’re gay or lesbian,
forget about becoming president,
they still can’t even become a husband or a wife.

But the days since have been invigorating...
watching gay men and women and our straight friends
come to life around this issue.
Realizing that equality and change
isn’t something that happens passively
like a movie you go see,
it’s a movie we’re all making together. "
