Inspiration or Imitation ??

Monique Lhuillier Resort 2009 (above) and Fendi RTW Spring 2008 Collection (below.)

Neither inspiration or imitation. Monique's swirls are ribbon appliques on tulle, which would have taken her artisans at her atelier ages to apply at precise placements. Fendi's swirls are prints. Even the necklines are different. Monique went for the classic sabrina while Fendi's more like armour plates. Both creations stand on their own merits. If you have to insist that it's either inspiration or imitation, then both Monique and Fendi could have gotten the idea from here: http://www.vangoghgallery.com/painting/starryindex.html. It's Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night." So now, who's copying who?

Karl Lagerfeld's swirls are prints. Even the necklines are different. Lhuillier went for the classic sabrina while Lagerfeld's are more like armour plates. Both creations stand on their own merits.
