Louis Vuitton must close on Sunday

It's absurd !!!
After a complaint by the French Confederation of Christian Workers labour union, a Paris court ruled yesterday that Louis Vuitton flagship on the Champs-Elysées must close on Sundays. According to
WWD, LVMH was given preliminary permission to open last year after the store underwent a major overhaul before reopening with a new art exhibit space, thereby qualifying as a museum – and museums are allowed to open on Sundays while the majority of shops have to close. The CFTC, which has no workers at the store, claimed that the exhibit space was simply a way of shirking the rules and that LVMH was setting a dangerous precedent. An LVMH spokesman said yesterday that the company was likely to appeal the court decision, adding that 100 per cent of the workers in the store had voted in favour of Sunday opening. He said that the ruling undermined customer service and business in France and that 70 jobs were now at risk as a result of it. "There are 5,000 to 10,000 shoppers who visit the store on Sundays, mostly tourists," he said. "They now will have to go to Milan or London [to buy Vuitton on Sundays]." The official court ruling is due in two to three weeks and in the mean time LVMH will study all its options - including the idea of remaining open and paying a weekly fine.
