Word of the Day

What is the difference between a pit and a seed? I asked my American friends and got different answers until I looked up on Yahoo! Answers.
Here we go, "certain fruits have a pit, such as peach, appricot, plum, and the seed is inside. The pit protects the seed till it gets to conditions that are right for it to start growing. Other fruits have just seeds such as apple, grapes, pear, berries. These will grow with the right conditions. The fruit itself is the ovary where the seed develops. The fruit develops after fertilization in the flower."

Thank you...
